Property development! That seems to be a good way of making a profit, and who wouldn’t be glad to see some increase in the area of their finances?!
Chatting with a friend recently this topic came up as she shared with me how this would be a very good way to build for the future. She had studied, researched and was attending some training courses so she could be fully equipped to make good investments.
It led me to reflect on the truth that, having made a decision to hand our lives over to God, becoming followers of Jesus Christ, the fact is our very lives become the property of God, and He has lavishly invested His awesome resources in us! His Holy Spirit fills us as we surrender our lives to Him, He grants us His strength, His wisdom, His Word and His love!
We belong to Him – He has purchased us at immense cost – through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, His life blood poured out for you and me.
In the natural, a property developer may look for the best opportunity, the most likely potential profit from his investment. A property developer would not expect his property to remain idle, slowly decaying! He would get to work himself in renovations and repairs, or pay someone else to do the necessary work.
Praise God, when He surveyed the land His eye beamed down on you, on me, and He considered us to be a great investment! The fact that our lives may have been in need of much improvement or even quite dilapidated, did not deter Him from His intention to bring transformation. His purchase was not with the view to ‘selling on’ but actually, amazingly, to dwell in us Himself!
His plan is for us to be made completely new, to be made beautiful in His sight! However, let’s remember He very much cares about what goes on in that house!
I Corinthians 6:19: Or don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honour God with your body.
I have moved house on a crazy number of times, but the first thing we usually do is get to work cleaning everywhere, ready to move in and set up home. It is only after that cleaning that we begin to live in the house, hopefully flourishing and prospering in our lives in that new season.
As with some houses I have moved into, it is possible that our own lives may have looked like a very challenging proposition but the Lord has all the resources needed for this transformation! As His Holy Spirit takes up residence in our lives, and as we are guided by Him and His Word, line upon line, the Bible tells us in Philippians 2:13 that God is at work in us, giving us both the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.
He does not expect us to be idle, but to be co-workers with Him in this transformation work, so that His property becomes a wonderful testimony to the Master who has bought us, and invested Himself into our lives.
